Has long-standing audio issues with Android 5 Lollipop It's good that Eloquence, the familiar and beloved TTS engine, is available for Android. However, it has pesky consonant-initial audio cutout issues on Android 5 Lollipop. That is, either while typing or reading by letter or word, you'll often hear consonants like 't,' 'p,' 'k,' 'd,' etc broken. This has been affecting Eloquence for months without the developer doing nothing about it -- something very strange and disturbing for such an expensive application. Also, Eloquence has a problem with 'apostrophe' -- ' -- in some applications where words containing an apostrophe are separated into two words. For instance, you're is read as you re, isn't is read as isn t, etc. Until these issues are resolved, I give the app a 2-star rating and don't recommend it to Android users.
Developers like CodeFactory should learn not to exploit users' initial enthusiasm for a TTS engine by bringing it to Google Play, working on it for a few months, and then dropping it like a hot potato -- half-baked. For the very same reason, neither do I purchase their other TTS engine nor do I recommend it. Getting better.
Eloquence is the best TTS engine I have ever used and I am someone who experiment quite a bit with different options. There is nothing better when it comes to responsiveness and stability, and no other engine can hold a candle to Eloquence as far as fast reading is concerned. There is daylight between Eloquence and the next best in this regard.
When Code Factory brought Eloquence to Android, it retained these best characteristics and it has been my default TTS for some time now. CF were good in quickly responding to user feedback though there were a glitch or 2 that were unaddressed in the previous update, but with this quick fix that has come only few days after the last update, the issue regarding incorrect reading of call duration that I had reported a couple of months back has been fixed. Rating the app only 4 now, as I still feel Eloquence has to speak a bit louder. It still quieter in comparison to the Google TTS or eSpeak, and on phones with not so good volumes to start with, this is still a big issue. Very very close to perfection. I must say, I would never imagine using any other TTS engine than this one.
And that's saying something considering that coat factory has left a bad taste in my mouth from the past. The only reason that I am giving this a lower rating is because I feel that eloquence is a little bit too compressed.
It sounds like a four or five over one ratio. An extremely fast attack and almost no release. The threshold is terrible. Weirdly, 16 K sounds even worse than the 11 case sample rate. You guys are so close!
