I have the same problem, but I've already had Google Chrome installed before and this error started occurring when I wanted to reinstall Google Chrome. That wasn't the start of the problem however; the reason I uninstalled Google Chrome in the first place was because the updater was exhibiting the same behavior. It just said it was installing the update and never finished. Killing processes or rebooting the computer did nothing and now I am unable to install Google Chrome.
/ Andreas Blixt Blixt 23:41. Here's a list of what I've done (that I can remember): - Installed Google Chrome when it was announced. - Changed to dev channel. - Updated once (I believe). - Tried to update, but it always got stuck at 'Installing update.'
- Tried to change to beta channel. No difference. - Installed Chromium which worked, but found Chromium to not work as well for me as Google Chrome did, so I uninstalled it again. - Still couldn't update Google Chrome.
Uninstalled it. - Now I can't install Google Chrome. It's stuck at 'Downloading Google Chrome.'
Every time I try to install Google Chrome, a new instance of GoogleUpdate.exe is started. I remember the same thing was true for when I tried to update Google Chrome. But as I said in my previous post, killing the processes did nothing. Deliafcipe 09:26. There is no error message, the program just shuts down. If I open Task Manager and watch what happens in the processes tab, using the installer creates another instance of GoogleUpdate.exe. When it finishes downloading and goes to the 'Installing Google Chrome.'
Phase, chrome_installer.exe is added to the Processes list, then immediately after is closed along with the previously mentioned instance of GoogleUpdate.exe. I get no error message and am not prompted in any way, it simply shuts down. This happens with both the main and the alternate downloads.
Jbernardo 01:37. This solved the issue for me, but on a indirect way. I was trying to install chrome on a laptop that had been freshly installed.
My profile is a roaming profile, and I had chrome installed before on another machine. The normal installer would disappear after downloading and showing 'installing chrome'.
The full installer linked here went up to the end, and claimed to have installed chrome, but I didn't have any chrome folder in the programs list or any shortcut at all, and it didn't offer to import anything. Also, the full installer was in Italian - and even though I am in Italy now, I'd rather have chrome in Portuguese or English. So, after using the alternative installer, I was able to remove chrome using the 'add/remove programs' applet, and afterwards the regular installer worked.
This work around seems to have solved it for me. Shawn (Googler) 12:02. Hey Alariens, Can you see if setup.exe was also launched after chrome_installer.exe was in effect?
If so, can you provide me your installer log? You can find the install log by: 1. Click the Start menu on your computer taskbar.
Type in the following text, then click OK: For XP:%USERPROFILE% Local Settings Temp For Vista:%LOCALAPPDATA% Temp 4. In the folder that opens, look for a file named chrome_installer.log.
You can send it to me through the below contact form. Thanks Shawn Alariens 12:47. Here is the Notepad content of Chrome Installer log: [0209/140533:ERROR:main.cc(114)] Binary patching failed with error 6 [0209/140533:ERROR:delete_tree_work_item.cc(43)] can not delete C: DOCUME~1 Larry LOCALS~1 Temp chrome_2630 OR copy it to backup path C: DOCUME~1 Larry LOCALS~1 Temp 2633 chrome_2630 [0209/140533:ERROR:work_item_list.cc(32)] list execution failed Reference: running XP, dev vers last 2.0.159.0. Did an uninstall and attempted to re-install. Channel Changer always shows the Stable vers is loaded, and I attempt to change back to Dev, to no apparent sucess. Stand alone installer runs then shows:a green check mark, 'Thanks for loading Google Chrome' (but no icon, no Start Menu listing, no nothing (?) Nirvananeo 21:19. I have problems to about my google chrome installation.
Can you please help me? My problem is i used the alternate download but still nothing happened.
I also see this:%USERPROFILE% Local Settings Temp, I also see the.log file. It says: '[0305/075942:ERROR:setup_main.cc(347)] Higher version is already installed.' How could I resolve this? I also tried to uninstall google chrome, but it says: Error 138 or something like that.
I wish to remove all of its components (not to reformat) so I can reinstall the program. And after my installation of the alternate download, I think nothing happened. But it says that it was successfully installed. No file execution (I mean no 'chrome.exe' showed up) occured. But all I need is how to uninstall the google chrome 'cause I can't see the uninstaller. I wish you can help me with my problem. Thanks a lot.
Jummahfilms 17:49. I discovered I had a virus and trojan downloader on my system and cleaned it up. After that I uninstalled and re-installed Chrome since it got borked when the virus was active.
Ever since then I was getting 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the application.' So, I uninstalled and tried to re-install and it would just sit there. So, I deleted everything and anything related to Google on my comptuer (including registry entries by using CCleaner). Then I rebooted in SAFE MODE and was finally able to install Chrome again.
All seemed to be well and that 0xc0000135 error seemed to be gone, but it's back (intermittantly so it's hard to figure out exactly WHAT is causing that) I *think* the anti-virus software I'm using is interfering with Chrome as this error sometimes appears and sometimes it doesn't whenever I open Chrome but that's another issue. If you can't get Google Chrome to install after having it previously on your system, try removing anything and everything relating to Google, reboot in SAFE MODE and then try to install Chrome while in SAFE MODE. Hope that helps someone. Jesario 22:24. Im having a lightly difrent problem. I tried to instal the new beta 'Google Chrome 6.0.408.1 Beta' but the instaler didnt start so I deleted the instal.
But after i deleted the instal chrome didnt start anymore. So i tried downloading chrome with Google update but it said that it is already installed. I tried uninstaling but it said that the Setup.exe file is missing. The Add/Remove said the same thing. So i tried deleting the program entry with CCleaner. The standalone Instaler sais that it installed it but crome doesnt apear to be installed. Killers 00:13.
I was using chrome fine, no problems, then one day it stopped opening, and I got the following message: chrome.exe-bad image. C: Windows system32 OPEN32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact system administrator or the software vendor for support. I uninstalled chrome and then tried to reinstall and all I get is this same message during the installation process. Robby98756 22:28. While this may not be a solution for everyone's issues, this will solve some of them if certain corruption problems are to blame. I tried installing the Beta from my recently updated, standard Chrome, by going to the site.
This attempted, but failed to install. I also tried the standalone, no dice.
I'd get the Unspecified Error message either way after the installer completed the download portion and began to attempt to install Chrome. Windows couldn't locate Chrome if I tried to reopen the browser, and no uninstaller could be found if I attempted a removal. So, I did attempt to remedy this by sweeping/repairing registry errors, but this didn't fix the problem and may not be a required step. What did work was merely browsing to the folder>C: Documents and Settings YOUR ACCOUNT Local Settings Application Data Google Chrome User Data Default Cache.and deleting the files contained within.
After that, Chrome installed on the first try. Note: YOUR ACCOUNT refers to the folder contained in C: Documents and Settings which is named after the account you are attempting to install Google Chrome onto. Also, Local Settings, and Application Data are both hidden folders, you will need to type the path manually or Google how to make hidden/system files and folders visible for your operating system.
Good Luck; ) Morteza_rk 05:07. Chrome_installer.exe for Beta 10.0.612.3 didn't setup initially on Win7. Then uninstalled the previous version of Chrome and installed the Beta again.
Then a dialog box to choose the default search engine came. I selected Google.com. Then for a few seconds nothing happened. Then some screen area on the desktop went white indicating something is going on there. So I clicked on that area and got the message Chrome is not working - close the program or wait to respond. So I chose to wait. At the same time there was a chrome.exe instance in the Task Manager.
I was waiting for 30 seconds or so but nothing happened. So again clicked on the white display area and this time chose to close the program. Then that area was refreshed but nothing happened. Then I just happened to click on the Chrome icon left by the previous version on my task bar. OH GOD, THE BETA APPEARED. IT'S WORKING!!!!
Ganithajanitha 19:31. After a virus attack (which I dealt with using Spybot Search & Destroy and Malwarebytes), Google Chrome would no longer open.
I doubleclicked the shortcut and the hourglass came up but then it never opened. I never got any error messages or anything. I tried right clicking and selecting Open. I also tried going directly to the folder where it was installed. I got the same results.
I rebooted my computer multiple times. I uninstalled Chrome and tried to reinstall. The downloader did not work for me because I have Hughesnet but I tried the standalone installer that was linked in this thread. It downloaded properly and said it was installing. A window popped up with a progress bar but then it disappeared.
When I checked Add/Remove programs it says that Google Chrome is there but when I find the chrome.exe in my folders (because it didn't seem to run the full install process) it does the same thing with the hourglass. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? I really want Chrome back. Firefox is driving me batty and I refuse to use IE. My OS is Windows XP (not sure if that makes any difference).
