Evette Schaeffer Serial Numbers Saxophone Mouthpieces
Evette Schaeffer Master Model Alto Sax made by Buffet-Crampon Serial# 7338 (Circa early 60's) From most of the information that we've gathered on these models online, it looks like this falls between the Buffet Dynaction and Superdynaction models. Seems like these were made when the Superdynaction series were released as they have similar bodies to the Dynaction series, but slightly different key work and the different position of the low C# tone hole. Great playing and sounding horn! Comes with recent Protec Propac Alto Case.

I recently came across an Evette Buffet Crampon saxophone on Craig's List for $175. I'm a freshman in college, and as a result, I don't have a huge of money to spend on an instrument. I've been playing sax for around six years, but I always used my high school's sax when I played. I need one now. I recently came across an Evette Buffet Crampon saxophone on Craig's List for $175. I've been playing sax for around six years, but I always used my high school's sax when I played. I need one now because I'm looking to get involved in the ensemble on campus. What I was wondering is if this would be a worthy buy? I'm an advanced player, and I need a sax that will hold up, but that doesnt cost a ton of money. I've heard of Buffets, but only for clarinets.
Would this be worth a try? Best Answer: If it's in decent playing condition, that's a killer deal for a pretty good student horn.
As was said, go in person to check out the instrument, and if you like it and it doesn't need a complete overhaul, go for it. Keep in mind it is a student horn, but even a student sax can sound great with a good mouthpiece so look into getting a Yamaha 4C or a Selmer C* mouthpiece as well. I used my student sax for 2.5 years of college with a Selmer C*. Like I said, try it before you buy it, and if you like it get it. I wouldn't be surprised if it needs a few new pads though. Edit: I now play on a Buffet 401 alto sax. New Apps For Java Phones Free Download on this page.
It's one of the best horns I've played, so while Buffet is primarily known for its clarinets, they have good saxes too. The tone may not be tip-top, but they are very durable horn.and a good mouthpiece/reed combo can do wonders for the tone.
Go see the sax in person, if the saxophone says 'Evette and Schaeffer' it will probably be a good horn(obviously play it to make sure it is), if it just says 'Evette' it will most likely be bad. The price point is making me think it's vintage though, which means it probably is a real Evette. But again, make sure to double check before you buy. If this does turn out to be a chinese horn I'd recommend looking into the old Buescher True Tones. The ergonomics aren't what you're probably used to because it's so old, but they are very nice horns that can be found for cheap set up.
