Over my 50+ year career as a Practicing Structural Engineer, I have had the opportunity to both use and review a large number of Reinforced Concrete texts. To the best of my knowledge there has never been a book written by practicing structural engineers for practicing structural engineers on the subject of how to design post-tensioned concrete structures. The authors of this book design post-tensioned buildings for a living and teach how to design them at a university level. I am just 'blown away' by the discussions of mats, seismic diaphragms, restraint to shortening, construction issues and external post-tensioning. These discussions just don't exist anywhere else in the published world. This book is not only a text which should be used in teaching the design of prestressed concrete but should also be on the bookshelf of every practicing structural engineer who designs or considers designing a post-tensioned concrete building.

The graphics and down to earth explanations make this book a truly unique resource for practicing structural engineers and those who are studying to become practicing structural engineers. I designed my first post-tensioned concrete building in 1965 and have been intimately involved with post-tensioned structures ever since. This book is one the best which I have ever seen. They have covered almost all the topics from design to practice. In the design section they have started from the very basics so that even a new comer will be able to understand without any difficulty. In design examples they have covered all types of structures where PT is used including Seismic Diaphragm, Slabs on Grade and External Post-Tensioning.

The reasons for cracking, spalling, and blowout and their solutions have been discussed in detail. The proper shoring for the pour strips and methods of locations of PT cables in existing slabs are also covered. In short this book is an encyclopedia of PT and is a must to have for all, those, who are in PT business. This book should be on the desk of every teacher, student, practitioner, and supervisor involved with post-tensioned buildings. The authors are experienced practitioners and lecturers who present the fundamentals in a clear and focused manner.

I really also like the fact that the book covers the actual field issues that you encounter during construction, which to me makes the story complete.
