I have a quick question regarding my CME UF8. Ever since I've purchased a new PC (which is Windows 7 x64) my CME hasn't been working, there are no existing drivers for 64 bit systems, so I am unable to play my controller on my new PC. However, I've found this: My question is if I will be able to play my controller if I purchase this piece of hardware without needing a driver for the CME controller itself. Essentially what I'm asking is will this device allow me to bypass this 64bit incompatibility issue?

Essentially what I'm asking is will this device allow me to bypass this 64bit incompatibility issue? I was not familiar with CME gear so I downloaded the CME-U Series manual (2005). The manual is very thin. So far as I can see, the usb port (1) can provide power to operate the keyboard, (2) communicates with computer resident software so you can set up certain buttons, and (3) sends midi data to the computer. According to the manual, 'All the MIDI messages from the UF keyboard or from USB transmission will be outputted to external MIDI devices via MIDI OUT terminal.'

This tells me that in additional to sending midi data to external gear any fully functional midi interface should be able to send the midi data to your computer. Again, with any interface, you will need drivers compatible with your OS. I have never tried the interface you are looking at, but check out the manufacturer's site for the appropriate drivers. Also if they have a user community, check that out. I have used an E-Mu Xmidi2x2 interface successfully with a 64bit Win7 laptop. I have also used an arduino to send midi data to the laptop via a usb port using a free midi/usb serial bridge utility (Hairless-midiserial.exe). Install Squirrelmail Windows 7 here.

Aug 26, 2009 Any keyboardists out there CME UF8. A CME UF8 (MIDI) Keyboard. The driver was designed for XP. Hey guys, apologies if this is in the wrong forum, if so I suppose a moderator can move it. If you can't find a midi interface that meets your needs, you might be able to build a simple arduino thing that simply takes midi from the CME and sends it to your PC. Hope this helps. Steve ADDENDUM: I see that Avid/M-Audio now owns the midisport line and they do list drivers for Win7 64bit as well as Win 8 64bit. Install Twiki Xampp Windows. There are even decent Linux drivers for them.

The 2x2 is pretty venerable and does what it does well. The only midi interface I can think of that is even less effort to get working on almost any OS is the Edirol UM-8 series USB to MIDI interface. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.
